Alan did not get paid for painting a house from a general contractor. The general contractor claimed the homeowner was not happy with the paint job on the newly constructed home. So the general said he had no choice but to withhold payment.
Alan hounded the general for at least partial partial payment. The general wrote him a check for $1,500 (on the $7,000 job). BUT that check BOUNCED!
I put Marc Mager on the case. Marc called Attorney Ryan Wood, a friend of the show and member of my Referral List @ Referralist.com. Ryan agreed to take the case on “contingency” – meaning he only gets paid if he can collect.
Ryan immediately filed a lien on the property which prevented the homeowner from converting his construction loan into a conventional mortgage.
Bottom line? Alan got a check for $7,000!
NOTE: A Mechanic’s lien is a powerful tool when done correctly. But there are many important timelines that have to be followed to make it valid and collectible.
